They’re not always as easy to pull off as you may think.
Shorts are a classic style piece. They’ve ebbed and flowed in terms of their popularity over the years, but with the weather heating up, you should be ready to start breaking them out soon. As comfortable as they can be, there are also things you need to be aware of to ensure you’re looking your best when rocking some shorts. Here’s what you need to know…
Keep It Slim
Unless you’re going for a major fashion statement, slimmer shorts are going to work better. They’re more flattering and work better with a larger variety of outfits. They will work nicely with a casual or a slightly more formal outfit.
Watch Your Lengths
Above the kneecap is absolutely essential, gents. Don’t let your shorts fall any lower than that. This is just what’s best for everyone so that you look like you know what you’re doing. Also, in terms of shortness, keep it around 3-5 inches from the top of your kneecap. If you really want to go full 70’s NBA, you can, but know that it’s going to attract more attention.
Long Top, Short Bottom
One of the coolest ways to style shorts is with a long sleeve shirt or a jacket. Just because it’s warm and you want to show some leg, don’t feel like you automatically have to throw on a tank top or a t-shirt.
Bold patterns are totally in this season. Loud shirts have been popping up on all of the runways, but don’t fear a great pair of bold shorts, either. They make a great statement, just be sure you style them with a more muted top. Going too bold all over will start to just look sloppy.
Rather than list out a bunch of do not’s, basically just stick to the do’s and you’ll be fine. You now know that you don’t want something too long and baggy. You don’t want to be too short, unless you do. You don’t want to go with the automatic tendency of wearing a short sleeve tee with your shorts. Lastly, you don’t want to simply do the same thing you’ve always done, be bold! Try something new and by generally sticking to these guidelines, you’re going to look great!
