Happy Hour: What to Drink This Weekend

A slight twist on a classic makes for a wintery mix.

You did it! Another week in the books. Congrats, and well done! Now it’s time to imbibe with friends at the local watering hole. What to order? We’ll take it from here…

If you’d like something masculine but with more flavor than scotch neat, you should consider ordering a New York Sour. This twist on the classic whiskey sour will offer a lot of the same flavors, but with an added kick that we’ll get into a bit later. A cocktail like this is a great way to start your evening. Especially if you’re attending a dinner or enjoying a meal more appropriately partnered with wine or beer. It might not be something that every bartender is familiar with, so if you find yourself in that position…here’s what they’ll need:

2 oz Bourbon

.75 oz Lemon Juice

.75 oz Simple Syrup

1 Egg White

Splash of Red Wine

Mix the bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white in a cocktail shaker and shake with ice for 10 seconds. Strain contents into another shaker and “dry shake” with no ice for another 10 seconds. Strain the contents into a champagne coup if you’re comfortable drinking your cocktail up, or over the rocks if not. Then pour the splash of red wine over the top as a float. The lighter consistency of the wine will allow it to sit on the top of the drink and bring in some other flavors when you sip the cocktail.

The colors of the ingredients mixing together will create an extremely Instagrammable moment, so be ready to make your friends jealous of your fancy concoction.
