Making Your Home Smarter Than You Are

I know I am not the only person who has had to turn around and go back home to make sure their front door is locked.  I do this at least once a week.  When Nest reached out and asked if I would like to test drive their Nest x Yale Lock I couldn’t respond fast enough.

There are a number of features that make the Nest x Yale Lock a must have for your home but the number one for me is peace of mind.   The system will tell you when and who is unlocking your door throughout the day.  It’s like having your own personal doorman on call at all times.  The new Nest x Yale Lock system allows you to monitor, interact and protect your home, even when you are not there!

Setting the System up

When it comes to setting the Nest x Yale Lock system up, it really couldn’t be easier.  If your door already has a deadbolt lock that is separate from the door handle you just need to pop the deadbolt out and place the Nest x Yale Lock in its place.  It took me about 15 minutes start to finish to make the switch.  Once the system is in place, you’ll need to download the Nest app if you haven’t already.

The app will guide you on how to set up your lock and allow you to add custom codes for you and your family.

Features I love

  • Never worry about keys getting lost, copied or stolen again.
  • Create passcodes for friends and family and revoke them anytime.  This is ideal if you Airbnb your home or have friends staying with you for the weekend.
  • Alerts keep you posted on comings and goings.
  • Forget to lock the door? No problem. Nest x Yale Lock can lock itself.
  • Lock, unlock, or check if your door is open from your phone, from anywhere.

How I use the Nest x Yale Lock

For me, it’s all about convenience.  Since receiving the lock I have been able to do a number of things that previously would have been impossible or at least very inconvenient.  Now, when I leave the house for a night out I can leave my big bunch of keys behind.  Two, I had a friend that needed to pick up a piece of equipment while I was traveling.  I was able to make them a custom code as well as know when they arrived and if they locked the door on their way out. This is so much safer than an extra key under a rock! (And you don’t have to remember to put it back once you use it!)  Three, as someone who constantly thinks they left the door unlocked it’s nice to know I can now just check my cell phone instead of turning the car around to check and make sure.

If you ask me, the $279 price tag on the Next X Yale Lock is well worth the peace of mind that comes with knowing your home is safe.
