Netflix Sunday: My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

A great way to judge where you land on the crazy scale.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Comedy Series)

Rebecca Bunch has an amazing job as an attorney in NYC. She’s worked extremely hard her entire life and always put her profession in front of everything. That is until she runs into Josh Chan, the guy she fell in love with as a teenager during summer camp. Seeing Josh opens Rebecca’s eyes to the fact that she’s very unhappy in her work-over-everything life and decides to move to West Covina, CA…which just so happens to be where Josh lives (although she adamantly denies moving there for him, claiming she just so happened to end up in West Covina because of a great job offer).

Rebecca moves and the crazy story continues from there, often breaking into elaborately hilarious musical dance numbers from an awesomely talented cast. The setting of West Covina provides an amusing backdrop of small-town Californians who range from eager to please coworkers, high school heroes and wannabe hipsters. They’re all somehow equal parts reminiscent of people you grew up with and totally absurd versions of theĀ people they represent, which creates an excellent dichotomy.

This show is great to watch with your significant other because you’ll laugh at the comedy, cry at the drama and cringe at the unbelievable lengths this girl will go to in order to reclaim her spot in Josh’s heart. It’s an awesome commentary on how crazy people are willing and able to be in our modern, internet-driven world.
