We’re Loving North America’s 2016 Olympic Outfits

Regardless of who you’re rooting for, no one can deny great design.

As the world begins to focus in on Rio 2016, every piece of information is being eaten up by those excited for the games. Something tangible to show support for their team and the games are the official team outfits. In past years, team merchandising has played a big role in not only the games but for the designers that produced them. From Ralph Lauren to Adidas to The Hudson’s Bay company, many designers have had the opportunity to deck out their countries best athletes in their clothes, some more than once. With the games just around the corner, brands are releasing their designs and official merchandise to the public to show their support for their countries. We’re sticking in North America for this one, here are the designs for the United States and Canada we loved.

Once again, Ralph Lauren has the honor of dressing America’s best athletes in his timeless and brilliantly simple designs. This year’s line up seems to be a joyful blend between their popular Polo collection and its athletic counterpart Polo Sport. The designs feature the all American red white and blue color scheme and range from performance wear to casual wear. The collection showcases 3 of America’s olympians, Swimmer Ryan Lochte, Marathon Swimmer Haley Anderson, and Freestyle Wrestler Jordan Burroughs. For the mens collection there is a distinctly nautical vibe straight from a weekend in the Hamptons. Following the American colors we see white shorts and chinos for the casual wear paired with a classic stripped belt.

Their shirts range from a big pony style button up with an accenting Team USA logo on the opposing breast side of the shirt, to striped t-shirts and their classic polo, complete with the same details from the button up. They also feature warmer options with the classic American flag crew neck, USA half zips and track jackets following the ongoing pony and Team USA logos. Their performance wear ranges from t-shirts to polos to shorts featuring USA and Rio logos. On top of clothes, they also feature some heavy hitting accessories with duffle bags, hats, pins and sunglasses. To round out the collection they feature a unique 60’s post card design of what looks to be the Copacabana Beach in Rio. This design is finished off with the American stars on the sleeves and shoulders, completed with Polo inscribed on the breast. Overall this years team outfits for Team USA are sure to have the olympians and you shining during the opening ceremonies.

The Hudson’s Bay Company, like Ralph Lauren, has had the honor of outfitting their county’s best athletes with their designs more than once. Their designs for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games were a hit globally, and consistently sold out. This year’s designs for the men feature Canada written over the chest of shirts, sweaters, tanks and polos. They follow the Canadian flag’s white and red colors mixed with some black and grey accents. Their t-shirts make for great layering pieces for going under their sleek performance hoodies, which follow an all red color scheme with black accents and Team Canada’s logo on the breast. For the colder occasions, their famous Canadian maple leaf mittens make a come back from the 2010 collection, as well as their all black sweatpants with Canada written down the left leg.

Lastly, they feature a truly unique blazer for the opening ceremonies that seems to blend a traditional blazer with windbreaker accents. Perfect for using as a jacket over a sweater for the cold Canadian winters. Overall the Hudson’s bay has once again created a stylish way to rep Canada for those who are residents and for those around the world.
